New Orleans has become a haven for spell-like renovations that have transformed the exterior of a historic church into a house of healing.
Now, a group of spell-themed artists and designers are turning the church’s interior into a permanent residence for healing, healing rituals and a place to host live music.
“It was a gift that the people of the church gave to the community,” said pastor James Bledsoe, who created a spell mural that stretches the length of the interior and is a centerpiece for the renovation.
“The church is a symbol of God.
The people who were there were all there for Jesus.
That’s why they loved this church so much.”
Bledsolee said he believes that the church has become the most spiritually and emotionally healing place in America.
“There’s a lot of people that don’t know this,” he said.
“I think they think it’s just a little bit of a novelty and an experiment.
But it’s not.
It’s a blessing.”
The church, in the heart of New Orleans’ French Quarter, was built in the 19th century.
“We built this church to be a symbol for the people that came here from all over the world to go into this great city and to be part of a miracle,” Bled soe said.
The parish has been transformed in recent years by new owners who have renovated the church to accommodate the demands of a larger parishioner population.
Bled’s family is from Ireland and immigrated to the United States in the 1960s.
He was a youth pastor in the parish’s youth ministry program when the parish was founded in the 1970s.
Bded said he spent more than 40 years with the church, including a lifetime of prayer and study.
He also spent time working on projects around New Orleans, including the restoration of the Louisiana State Capitol building and restoring a New Orleans restaurant.
Bredsoe said the project started with the renovation of the former St Mary’s Hospital, a Catholic-run health care institution.
“This was something that I’d been working on for a number of years,” he told the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
“And so, we decided we needed to do something with it.
So, I began to talk to a lot people and I found out that a lot folks thought that it was kind of a little crazy.
But then it started to take off.”
The first phase of the project was a “shade” that Bled would call “the big green house” and he would paint on.
He would paint the walls with white plaster that would then be used to cover the exterior walls.
The shade would also be used for a spell-filled sanctuary on the front of the house.
In the summer of 2019, Bled said he began working with the artists who worked on the project, including artist John Jansen.
The “shades” were then transformed into “spell houses” for the new parishioners, which are open to anyone who comes to the church for the first time.
Blied said the church is the “spiritual center” of the parish.
“If we’re going to make a change, it has to be done for the good of the people,” he explained.
“People don’t want to change.
They don’t even want to be in a new place.”
He said he has received hundreds of phone calls since the project began and that he expects to receive at least another hundred calls from people who want to stay.
“They’re the ones who know how to bring it to life,” he added.
“So, if they’re in a place where they feel comfortable coming, they’re welcome.
They just need to do what they need to to do it for the best of their selves.”
Bredsolees family is also working on another project, this time an outdoor chapel in the shadow of the new church.
“Now, we’ve had people come in, but they’ve only been in the church once,” Bred Soe said of the chapel.
“When they see the place, they say, ‘Oh, wow, I didn’t think I’d see this.'”
Bled has also installed a “mirror” on the exterior wall of the sanctuary, which will feature a picture of the angel Gabriel, the Archangel Michael and the Virgin Mary.
He said the new chapel is being built for the benefit of all the parishionars.
The next step is to get a permit to build the house of worship.
The church’s former home is in the National Register of Historic Places.
“In the long run, this will be a catalyst for other people to come and come in and be part a miracle for our community,” Biedsoe explained.
The restoration of St Marys Hospital has already begun.
The hospital is located in the old stately hospital on St Francis Street. It was
