Chelsea owner makes a deal to keep former owners

ROME — A Chelsea owner and his wife will keep their $8.5 million renovation loan secured by the city for another year, the city’s mayor said Friday, a move that will benefit the couple’s Chelsea headquarters and also bring in more money for the city.

The deal with Chelsea LLC was announced by Carlo Allegri on Friday and would keep the loan on hold until 2021.

It is unclear how much of the $8 million will be paid back over the next three years.

The city said the loan was originally due in September 2019, but is now due to expire at the end of May 2021.
